SUMMARY:CCS Monthly Forum
DESCRIPTION:WHERE\nYoutube Live Link \n\n\n\n\nAesthetics count: Linking a
esthetic experience and public support for coastal resilience\n\nAbstract:
\n\nWhy do some nature-based solutions gain public support while others fa
ce resistance\, even when they perform similar ecological functions? This
talk argues that aesthetics is more than a matter of surface appeal. Rathe
r\, it shapes how people engage with ecological design. Through a discussi
on of key concepts and findings from recent empirical studies\, including
research on shoreline interventions\, UF Assistant Professor Jiayang Li ex
amines how aesthetic experiences can influence public perceptions\, suppo
 rt\, and stewardship of coastal nature-based solutions.\n\nBio: \n\nJianya
ng Li\, Ph.D.\, is an assistant professor of landscape architecture at the
University of Florida whose research focuses on nature-based solutions fo
r climate resilience. She investigates how people perceive and experience
resilient landscapes\, with particular interest in the role of aesthetic e
xperience in shaping public acceptance\, stewardship\, and support for cli
mate adaptation. By integrating perspectives from landscape architecture\,
environmental psychology\, and social science\, her work aims to inform n
ature-based solutions that are both ecologically effective and meaningful
to the communities they serve.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT TO EXPECT EACH MONTH\nW
elcome &amp\; Center Updates\nQuick highlights of upcoming events\, projec
 t news and opportunities.\n\nScience Talks / Skills Workshops\n35-40 minut
 e presentation from undergrads\, grad students\, postdocs\, faculty\, or v
isiting speakers\, with time for Q&amp\;A. Topics and disciplines rotate m
onthly for a fresh mix of ideas.\n\nSome months\, we will also feature min
i workshops on professional development (e.g.\, how to make a great resear
ch poster\, CV tips) or research skills from faculty and visiting experts.
