SHared Operational REsearch Logistics In the Nearshore Environment (SHORELINE21): Uniting field and lab research across disciplines to reduce hurricane impacts to the built and natural environments
Registration
- Register here to virtually attend the workshop
Organizers
- NSF NHERI Experimental Facility at the University of Florida
- NSF NHERI Nearshore Extreme Events Reconnaissance (NEER) Program
- NOAA National Ocean Service Disaster Preparedness Program
- UF Center for Coastal Solutions
Workshop Summary
The workshop will convene experts from wind/coastal engineering, atmospheric science, oceanography, ecology, emergency management, and crisis communications to foster collaboration across field and laboratory research directed at reducing hurricane impacts to the built and natural environment, with the goal of exposing them to how the NSF NHERI program can amplify their research efforts. Participants will explore how field research planned for the upcoming Atlantic hurricane seasons can (a) inform the design, execution, and validation of laboratory experiments at NHERI experimental facilities (EF) and (b) benefit from NHERI community activities and tools to coordinate and document field experiments. Operational interests in engineering, meteorology, coastal management, emergency management, disaster response, and crisis communication will also attend to help PIs broaden the impact of their work.
