New leadership and an unwavering commitment to our mission

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I’m excited to introduce myself as the new Interim Director of the Center for Coastal Solutions. It’s a true honor to continue to work alongside such a dedicated and passionate team after serving for several years as an associate director of CCS. I look forward to collaborating with all of you as we continue our mission to understand, protect, and enhance the unique ecosystems that define our coastal landscapes. Christine Angelini, our founding director, established CCS as a new model for how to approach coastal sustainability through positive synergies, and we’ll continue to build momentum and reach through our ongoing initiatives.
Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by a deep respect for the marine world and its connection to people, and I am committed to advancing research that leads to real-world solutions. With the challenges of a changing environment, pollution, and habitat loss, I believe it’s more important than ever for us to work together—across disciplines, with local communities, and through innovative solutions—to safeguard our coastlines for future generations.
In this issue of Coastal Edges, we’re excited to highlight the inspiring work of our CCS faculty, affiliates and students, as well as our many project partners across the state. In December and January, we hosted two major events that showcased their talent and innovative research, and we’re proud to share some of those highlights with you here.
The search for the next CCS Director is underway, and in the coming months, I look forward to connecting with many of you to hear your ideas about how we can continue to grow and strengthen the work we do here at CCS. Together, I’m confident we can make meaningful strides in advancing research and creating positive change in our coastal environments and communities.
As we continue this important work, I also want to highlight our ongoing Giving Day campaign. Your support plays a vital role in helping us achieve our mission and drive impactful change. I encourage you to get involved and help us reach our goals to further coastal research, conservation, and restoration efforts.
Thank you for the warm welcome, and I look forward to continuing this journey with all of you.
Andrew Altieri, Ph.D.
