Undergraduate Internships
Our summer internship program for undergraduates is a 12-week immersive research experience connecting undergraduate students at the University of Florida to researchers in marine ecology, environmental engineering, hydrology and other fields. Selected students work alongside researchers from UF, industry and government agencies on research projects in coastal sites throughout Florida, from marshes near St. Augustine to coral reefs in the Keys (sites and collaborators will depend on the projects). In addition, we offer students part-time internships throughout the year, which provide opportunities to learn new skills in the lab and out in the field and be mentored by researchers and graduate students.
How your gift makes a difference
Through your generosity, students benefit from a chance to work collaboratively to solve coastal problems using scientific methods, explore career paths, gain technical skills, learn about marine and marsh ecosystems, and be mentored by graduate students and researchers.
Students gain invaluable technical skills e.g., how to collect and analyze data, use instrumentation, drive boats, and coordinate project activities. These paid internships help remove barriers to students who might not otherwise be able to participate. Selected students for the summer internship program participate in an orientation meeting, training sessions with staff and host researchers, and a student symposium at the end of the field season, in which they give a presentation on their work to the CCS community.
