Virtual Summit & Workshops
The state of Florida is experiencing significant water quality challenges along its coasts. These range from harmful algal blooms to pathogen outbreaks and rising sea levels, stressors that collectively threaten the health of our state’s nearly 14 million coastal residents, and the stability of the economies and ecosystems upon which they depend. To explore solutions, the University of Florida, North Carolina State University, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and Mote Marine Laboratory are virtually gathering thought leaders and stakeholders to help envision new technologies and applications, and a workforce development strategy for enhancing coastal resilience. Please join us for conversations to explore:
– Information needs and platforms that enable coastal residents and businesses to better respond to coastal water quality crises and other hazards, thereby reducing their negative impacts to public health and local economies;
– New technologies for detecting and tracking water quality hazards impacting coastal regions in order to enable communities to better adapt to threats in real-time;
– Emerging applications of AI and data science that allow useful information to be harvested from coastal sensing data, enabling coastal scientists, decision-makers and other stakeholders to identify key factors controlling past coastal water quality crises, and forecast future hazards and their economic and public health impacts.
Your input will shape the research and education priorities of our institutions in these areas. The summit marks the beginning of public-private collaborations to ensure that new technologies and graduates of our research institutions are rapidly deployed to accelerate industry and agency growth, and support the long-term health and resilience of coastal communities.
